Classifications – Target

In archery you can aim for a classification in the various specialisms, ie target, field, clout etc. Classifications for target archery are divided into 6 levels (5 for juniors). For each level you can claim a badge when you have achieved the scores required. The levels are as follows – 3rd class, 2nd class, 1st class and Bowman, these can all be claimed through your club. The top two levels need to be achieved shooting at Record Status shoots and the claim must go through Archery GB; the two levels are Master Bowman and Grand Master Bowman.

In order to claim a badge you must achieve a certain score three times within one outdoor season. The tables below give you all the archery rounds and the score you need to achieve.

If I could give an example (refer to the first two tables below). For an adult gent shooting a York round and achieving a score of 512, this would be his first score for a 1st Class badge. In his next round he shoots a St George, scoring 500. Again this would put him in the 1st class bracket. On a third occasion later in the season, he shoots 925 in a Bristol II. The archer now has the scores to claim his 1st class badge from his club.
